So, decided to get rid of the Cruze and get something that will put a smile on my face as a DD. Test drove the Focus ST, it was quite fun and obviously had more cargo space. Then I went to test drive the FR-S...

No comparison.

Three hours later, I was driving away with an FR-S 10 series (didn't even know about the 10 series thing). Why the 10 series? Mostly because I wanted the push button start, auto HVAC, and auto/HID headlights (yes, I know this comes in the BRZ Limited, but whatever). The color and emblem thing doesn't really do anything for me though, but I'm behind the wheel more than I am outside the car, so I don't care one bit about that. All I know is this, I enjoy every minute of driving this car, even at the speed limit.

Note: Not actual picture of car, just stock image.

Sooo, what is the question? You already bought the car so too late for our thoughts.

EDIT: So I misread your post. Are you asking which you should get or telling us you got an FR-S? If the latter, congrats on the FR-S!

For anyone else making this decision, it comes down to this:

Do you need 5 proper seats and a big boot[trunk]?

If no, then Toyobaru.

Congrats! I'm almost at 7,500 miles on my BRZ, and I can tell you that it will continue to put a smile on your face.

For me it was Fiesta ST or FR-S/BRZ. I HATED the MFT system after playing with it for more than 30 seconds, and the new center console in the Fiesta is too tall and I kept bumping it. I bought a BRZ.

I really wanted to support Ford's awesome new hot-hatches, but they've ruined them with the MFT bullshit. Increasing the cost to add a massive negative product? Dumb.

I test drove both and ended up in the ST (also drove the GTI, MS3 and Veloster Turbo). All I want is a small RWD hatchback with a 6-speed and LSD.

While the ST (and Focus in general) isn't the most versatile hatchback out there, we needed trunk space for our hockey gear (mostly mine, I play goalie, she plays defense), so the flat folding seats really help with our bags and dozens of hockey sticks.

Maybe she'll let me get a Toyobaru twins in the future in my quarter life crisis. No back seats? Thats what the ST is for :D

I think you need to click the link and read the conclusion to the story. This is more of a status post.

Excellent. I was going to get the BRZ honestly, but the Toyota dealer is right near my house and offers free lifetime car washes (I work next to the ocean, so getting the salt off for free is a big selling point to me). The closest Subaru dealership is about 50 min away.

I honestly didn't mind the MFT all that much, so it wasn't a deal breaker. However, with that said, I definately prefer buttons and my purchase reflects that.

I did click and read. Congrats on the purchase, it was win win. Just confusing posting a question for a status post.

Gotcha. I'll fix the title to clear things up a little.

Both are wonderful! I probably would have been fine with a FR-S, but I really wanted the auto-hvac and push button start (the 10 series wasn't out yet.) Plus it was easier to sell my wife on WRB than the orange color that the FR-S comes in.

Definitely more Toyota dealers than Subaru for sure, makes it easier if you have to take it into get serviced. Oh, and wear them out on the car washes too!

30 seconds... Try it for 30 minutes? I can't take you seriously if you dislike something as complex as a modern infotainment system within the first minute of trying it.

Since I chose the BRZ (only because I got it as cheap as an FR-S in the color I liked more) I got the navigation included. It's ok, but I can swap it any time I want. You can't swap the MFT without tons of finagling to make a regular head unit look good.

I said trying it for MORE than 30 seconds... It seemed fine at first, but it was next to impossible to touch anything on it while driving. The ST is very stiff and Pennsylvania roads are horrid.

It wasn't the deal breaker anyway, it was just a serious annoyance that I'd have to learn to live with. I honestly didn't want another fast FWD car, no matter how much nicer the ST is than my GTI.

Split the difference and get a WRX wagon.

Ah I misread that.

Still I've played with it quite a bit and really liked how the system works. But I guess it's not for everyone. I have it's predecessor in my SHO and I think I like it even better.

It would be great if the system wasn't sluggish, had bigger buttons, and wasn't so damn expensive. I don't want to pay for something I don't like :)

Congrats on the new toy.

That's the only way I would buy an FR-S as well. It's just such a nice option package on the BRZ to have smart keys, navigation, auto HVAC, auto HIDs, heated seats, hands free calling, etc. When my wife wanted a new car we went down, drove a bunch and when she said she wanted a Toyoburu we pretty much knew it was going to be BRZ Limited. So far it's still growing on me, but it needs boost. That's next years project.

i bought an st without ever considering the frs. I don't ever look back. The focus st is soo goddamned flexible, the frs just can't touch it for me. I did a late night drive from Atlantic city to hartford ct and never took it out of sixth gear. got 31mpg, had no problem slowing down and speeding back up with traffic. Don't miss having to shift around to look for a gear that'll move me. MFT rocks btw, get to know it and it works really well esp since it's last update, no restarts or bt hickups. There is a slight lag, but knowing the vocabulary goes along way and i have yet to have it get me lost. There are physical buttons for almost everything, so any comments saying otherwise are false. That being said i like the frs/brz it's just not for me. Does anyone have sales nubers for the three cars? I'd like to see how many are out there.

Nice, I went with the BRZ as well. Although the ST was a close contender as well- probably hard to go wrong with either.

BRZ. Easy. I don't live the Nissan XTerra life. The BRZ's luggage/interior space would be all I need.
